Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; for it becomes your destiny. -- Upanishads

So, you're in yoga, doing the 1st pranayama breathing for the 5 millionth time. You are not a yoga virgin anymore. You've been around the yoga block. Your yoga cherry has been popped a long time ago.
You have a thought. (First mistake) "This sucks." (Second mistake) Then this vibe stays with you for the first half of your class. (3 mistakes - you're OUT!)
Remember when you were brand spankin baby new to this yoga thing? You were focused on the task at hand. You weren't questioning anything. You didn't have time to think. You were looking forward to what was coming! You were a yoga virgin. It was so exciting.
(Those yoga virgins are so cute aren't they?)
So, for all of you "experienced" yogis that have had 500 partners (oops, I mean classes) - PRETEND IT IS THE FIRST DAY of yoga!
You can become a yoga virgin again.
It can always be a new day, a new experience.
Even if you have done the same class and yoga postures 5 million trillion times, there is no way to master them! Once you have the body thing and the alignment thing down, there is now the aspect of mastering your mind - and staying present in every single moment of your class.
So - back to the start of this blog...
The 3 mistakes of the "experienced" yogis that have had 500 partners (oops, I mean classes)
Mistake 1 - Thinking. Ummm - that would be a No. Clear your mind - really focus on your breath, and the essence of what you are doing. When a thought enters, always come back and find your breath. Where is your inhale and exhale? That will keep you clear and focused.
Mistake 2 - Feeling a negative emotion, thought, or vibe. What is that doing there? Switch it up. You need 3 positive thoughts or vibes to eliminate 1 negative. What are you enjoying during class? Even if it involves noticing how hot you look, or how hot that persons butt is in the front row.
Mistake 3 - Staying with one vibe or negative energy or thought through the whole class. Let the thoughts and emotions come and go. Let things pass through like they are floating on top of water. Never get stuck on on thing - LET IT GO!
So, treat each yoga experience like it's the first time, and feel the wonder and enjoyment that comes from learning, creating and improving your body, mind and soul baby!
Become a yoga virgin and get ready for the ride of your life!
It's a new day!
Peace
Andrea
p.s. - This advice can be applied in other areas of your life as well. :) (You know, like cooking.)
