Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; for it becomes your destiny. -- Upanishads

At a recent workshop with Yin Yoga Master Sarah Power, she has been emphasizing the importance of being mindful in yoga practice. I agree totally with that approach.

Yoga is... Yoga is awareness. From practicing yoga, one becomes more aware of one’s body, one’s being, and one’s presence. The person would also become more aware of the physical surroundings, the air, the senses, and the presence of others. Yoga is the union of achieving mind-body-soul connections. These 3 aspects are focused and being present when practicing yoga. The emphasis on these 3 aspects brings out the awareness of the practitioner. Yoga is a non-judgmental practice. Every individual incorporates his/her own physical limits, own values and own personal experiences.

Have you ever thanked yourself, your body for practicing yoga? Whether you do it religiously or have only done it once. Thank yourself for doing that. It's an experience I am sure you would never forget. It could a bad experience which made you never want to do yoga again :) (If that's the case, I hope you will resurrect that soon) or it could certainly have a positive impact on you and now you are hooked.

We learn something everyday. At least, that's what we are supposed to achieve, "learn something everyday". One day you learn to trust your instinct. One day you learn to treat yourself nicely. One day, you learn to treat other nicely. One day you learn to be truthful to yourself. One day you learn a new approach to an asana. Another you learn the meaning of the posture.

Do you ever?
Do you still go to your practice when you are feeling sick because you think you have to practice that day?
Do you still go to your practice when you have just finished an overnight project and havent slept but you feel guilty not practicing?
Do you still go to your practice when you have been working like crazy and not being able to eat a proper meal during the day?
When is the last time you listen to your body and let your body guide you what to do? Maybe your body needs the rest than practice. Maybe your body needs to consume more energy before it can spend more.
