Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; for it becomes your destiny. -- Upanishads

Does yoga = an open mind and heart?

When you go to yoga class, are you tight? In your groin, in your face, or in your heart? Did you know that yoga is the key to unlock all the tightness in your body, and the closed door of your heart and mind? It's true. If you are rolling your eyes and saying in your head right now that this chick is a fruity granola flake...well that would mean you are closed, locked, and probably have a tight groin. (among other things)
I realize that the Hot yoga series is always the same postures, and getting into the routine of practicing the same thing over and over again is how you will improve, and master the yoga pose. I understand that.
In fact - I agree that repetition is magic. Especially in yoga. The more you practice, the easier it will be, and then you will keep reaching new levels.
That's fine.
BUT - what if a teacher came along with a different style, and wanted to bring in something a little different just to keep it fresh and challenge your brain a little bit? Or wanted to introduce music into the yoga practice for a change?
Would you accept this, and stay OPEN to the experience? You would still be doing the same yoga postures, and you would still get the same benefits from the poses, but the style was just a bit different.
Would you get pissed off, and storm out of the class? Would you complain and never come back again? Would you be fuming and distracted for the whole class? Would you become angry, and closed, and lock the prison door of your mind and heart?
Would you be enraged and scrunch up your brain and want to scream and yell and punch someone in the 5th chakra?
Wow.
Does that sound enlightened or like yoga?
Does that sound spiritually evolved?
Well, for those of you who will accept whatever your yoga experience is, and go with the flow...
For those of you who have softened your edges and are willing to unlock the door and become free of the chains that bind you and keep you trapped -
NAMASTE.
Thank you for waking up and being open.
For those that are closed, you better check the schedule to make sure you have the teacher you want before you come to yoga class.
Peace
Andrea
