GAS IN YOGA CLASS.
O.k. - I am very aware that gas is a normal, natural part of being human. However...can we go over the etiquette for farting in the hot yoga room?
This applies to all classes, BUT mostly for the packed like sardine classes during the evening where there is no buffer room for the bad smells.
If you are about to pass gas, could you make sure that you are not doing the backbend floor series when someones face is right behind your butt?
Example. - Your butt is right in front of someones face while you are lifting your legs up in the floor bow pose. Where do you think the gas will go?
Right up their nose.
Or during any pose where your legs are spread eagle and you are bent over.
The gas will waft right out of you, and up into the face of the person behind you and beside you. Yum.
So, because I am all about finding a solution...here are some tips if you have to let one rip in the hot yoga room.
Wait until a SAFE yoga pose, when your thighs are together, and you buttcheeks are clenched and not spread apart.
Example - Half Moon in the hot series. Pretty safe one.
Another perfect example is the Rabbit pose. The perfect time is when you have the towel under your buttcheeks. Perfect buffer, and it muffles the sound.
Childs pose is good, because the person behind you has their face down on the floor.
And I suppose the WIND REMOVING pose in the hot class works, because that really is the name of the pose. I suppose getting that gas out of your internal organs is supposed to happen, right? Hence the name.
So, now that you have a solution, and are aware that you might smell really bad, and it will distract those around you...good luck with that!
If you have to do it in hot yoga class - IT'S ALL GOOD, AND VERY NORMAL - BUT...please
Respect the noses and the yoga practice of your fellow yoga friends.
And hopefully they will respect and look out for your nose and their gas as well:)
It will make for a much more pleasant yoga experience.
Peace
Andrea
