      Getting Your Balance

      Getting Your Balance

When you are in hot yoga trying to balance, and the sweat is dripping down your face, drip, drip, drip...on the floor...OOPS, there goes your focus - "ARRGHHHH...I fell." Have you stumbled, jerked, twitched, or even fell right on your butt in a balancing pose?

There are a few tricks. The first is before you fall, to bend the standing leg, then get your balance and straighten the leg again.

Second trick is to direct all your focus and energy and breathing to one single focus point, and keep your focus on the point for the whole posture.

BUT - here is another great tip that comes straight from kung fu fighting.

When you notice a jerk, twitch, stumble, or any movement at all - just before you fall out of the balance...dance with that force. If you fall out - that momentary stumble has taken control. If you use the power and force of the moment, and then direct all your energy and focus into transforming that moment into balance - you will use that force and direct the energy back into keeping your balance and getting back into the posture.

      Get it?

When you notice that moment just before the fall, use the energy you would have used to resist the movement, and transform and shift that into your control and determination to balance.

Give it a try and become a balancing yoga ninga.

      Peace
      Andrea
