Liquid Diet...who would've thought?

Well I must say this New Year is off to a good start; I hope everyone had happy holidays and a chance to just stop and smell the turkey...This year i decided to commit my first few weeks towards a cleanse.
Last year I did a cleanse called the Neera Super Cleanse – also known as Lemon Detox, or Master Cleanse in some cases. They had me at – “The Neera™ Super Cleanse is a tremendously effective cleansing diet that helps you eliminate accumulated toxins and lose excess weight. The simple and natural ingredients stimulate your body’s natural cleansing ability, freeing up all the energy that is normally spent on the digestion and elimination of solid food.” I don’t drink alcohol or eat too much junk food, but I still thought it would be a nice idea to just give the digestive system a little break.
I mean, how can I not want to try it? Every January is New Years’ resolutions, I promise not to’s or I promise to’s in all or any aspect of life. So anyway, last year I did it for 7 days, so this year I decided to do it for 14 days.... well; I didn’t quite make it to 14, but I did however challenge and succeed with 10 days.
It was probably the best 7 out of 10 days to start my year off... the first three days were all about the constant headaches, probably from caffeine withdrawal, and just being worn out and tired. I expected to feel weak in the first day or two as this is a common effect, not because of the lack of nutrients, but the effect that waste material is likely circulating in my body before it’s finally eliminated. So, it just meant peppermint migraine balm at all times and an early night’s rest.
Through the 10 days of my cleanse I managed to go to yoga 3 times as I didn’t want to commit to any strenuous exercise that’d increase the release of lactic acid which would only increase the toxic load I’m trying to eliminate in the first place; and my energy levels weren’t up to par to get myself to class. I listened to Will Blunderfield’s CD in combination with my Glee CDs on all my car rides to and from work, just to sing and feel like I had some sort of meditation to keep my mind off of food.
I must say, I did a home clean up that is getting great reviews from the Mac Makeup recycling program and the Salvation Army clothes drive with all the things I realized no longer need to be in my home as I had so much more time after work not having to cook or go out for dinner (who am I kidding, I don’t cook...)
I’m 10 pounds lighter, yes, a pound a day really, and my energy levels are great. I’m glad I gave my body a break and I’ve even decided that this year, to up the ante from last year every 3 months I’m going to do the 5 day program and then by next January do 10 days all over again, but who knows maybe I’ll love it so much I’ll do the 15 days they note as this being the maximum amount at one stretch. So...stay tuned.
So...that’s my first two weeks of the new year – on to other exciting things for remainder of the month and month to come. In The News for Westcoast, we are doing some great workshops that you’ll want to be sure to sign up for before they’re sold out.
Verena has two workshops coming up ‘Are Your Joints Holding Up’ on January 30th, and ‘Upside Down’ on February 6th at the Yaletown location. Chase has a workshop for Valentines’, ‘Core Cuts’ on February 5th at the White Rock Location – get those abs like his posters (whew....). There are more workshops on the way, we’ll keep you posted.
